Fil-Am Love Story

Sharing or posting love stories are a good idea. We all bring up many
topics on this website. I know that this issue is somewhat personal
but I think for a change what if we take a little time to rekindle
the moment we first met, the moment when we say “Finally, this is it,
I found you”. Isn’t it wonderful to know that we have not
forgotten how God bring two people together for a purpose?

Greg and I met in a way that God wanted us to meet. I met Greg two
years ago, in August 2005. We saw each other at the “Net”. It did
not take long for us like each other until one day we discovered that
we were falling in love with each other. Calling each other on the
phone everyday, chatting, sending emails and mailing letters and
cards are the things that we did in order to maintain our constant
communication. We also have a motto “A cord of three strands is not
quickly broken” Ecclesiastes 4:12. Cord of three strands is God, Greg
& I. This verse help strengthen our relationship and we promise that
we will always keep and remember this in our lives.

Greg made his first visit 4 months after we knew each other. On
December 7, 2005, he arrived in Dumaguete. At that time I was there
working. I will never forget that very first day of our meeting. I
fetched Greg at the airport, waiting for his arrival with a mixture
of excitement, fear, and anticipation. . When I heard the sound of the
airplane, I started to panic! I received plenty of text messages from
my sister Cathy, from my former staff and from my friends, asking
about how things went for Greg and me.

I am glad that I had one client who worked at the airport; he was
there with me while waiting for Greg. He even gave me water to drink
and he was the one who saw Greg. Funny, that time, you can easily
recognized Greg because he was the tallest passenger who rode on that
plane and one with fairest skin also.

When we saw each other personally, everything came true. God made
Greg beautiful in my eyes and so am I to Greg.

Greg and I enjoyed a wonderful and memorable 5 weeks together on his
first visit. The most wonderful thing about our visit was that we
were immediately comfortable with each other. We both have similar
attitudes about things. Our energy is about the same. We both love
music. We like the same foods. We appreciate the same styles. It
is absolutely amazing how two people from two different worlds could
have so much in common. It felt like we knew each other for many
years.

Greg’s visit included on my 29th birthday. One of the highlights
of the visit was the time when Greg arranged a surprise birthday
party with my friends at Shakey’s Pizza! We also spent Christmas and
New Year Eve’s together; and he celebrated his birthday with me too.

Greg proposed to marry me last Christmas (2005), and I said “yes”
very instantly. The next day, we traveled from Dumaguete to Roxas
City, where my family lives. Greg was the first man I brought home
and introduced formally to my parents. After we were there for a few
days, Greg asked permission to marry me from Papa and Mama over
dinner. Papa wanted to discuss it over a drinking session at the
beach with the other men in the family. Well, Greg must have worked
very hard for the family’s approval – he got very sick and we almost
had to take him to the hospital. Still, he recovered in time for a
New Year’s Eve party with lechon and lots of family there to
celebrate with us!

Greg possessed many good qualities, the reasons why my family and
friends welcomed and accepted him that easily.
I love Greg for many reasons. He is very demonstrative when it comes
to his feeling towards me. I also admire his gentleness, smartness
and thoughtfulness. He respects me a lot. He is also creative and
talented. Have a good sense of humor (esp. for those who knows him
well). These are only a few of the many qualities I admire about Greg.

Greg went back to US on January 12, 2006, and that started the
saddest part of our relationship: being APART. All of you know that
being far from your lover is not an easy thing to handle. However,
they say distance can also be a tool for love…It tests your
faithfulness and patience.

Greg made his second visit last Sept. 2006. I was so happy because we
celebrated our first year Anniversary. Then, after 2 months, he made
another visit where we celebrated our Christmas and New Year again
together with friends and family. I was very happy to see him again.

We experienced a long process in filing our fiancée visa but of
course, the waiting was all worth of it. It was March when I was
scheduled to appear for my visa interview and I felt very fortunate
that Greg made the journey to Philippines and accompanied me that
time. Thank God, that everything went well in our interview. We got a
chance to visit my friends in Dumaguete and were able to share enough
time with my families and friends in Roxas City (my hometown).

We were also very fortunate to be in Manila at the same time that
Alona was there for her physical exam. We were able to meet at the
Bay walk for an evening of music along with her sister. This was
just the start of what has been a wonderful friendship that we expect
will continue to grow.

April 13, 2007, I arrived here in US with Greg.. It was a long travel
for me but very memorable. I am glad that Greg and I went home to the
US together.

It is really a joy to see Greg’s families and friends and also my fellow filipinas.

They say that life is a long journey to travel. We don’t know what
lies ahead of us but we certainly know that this time we are not
traveling alone but with someone whom we can always turn to for
friendship, companionship, support, help, and especially Love.

So, here you go. Thank you for taking time reading this long love
article.

Blessing to all,

Lilibeth Lins
